This just in from our far-flung correspondent in the hills, Geoffrey "Bat" Shlaes:

"I am looking forward to hosting the last poker game of 2009. We have already brought in healthy fruits and nuts for snacks, and will also purchase chocolate and chips to make the evening sapid, tasty, and palpable. I predict too much 7/27 and an evening filled with laughter and serious poker!"


It's a Jungle Out There


Everything was going along swimmingly. The boys — and one hardbitten broad nicknamed Texas Chomp 'Em — even enjoyed the dramatic way I turned the cards playing "Red and Black." I told them I'd learned at the snout of the master, Art L; they said he was like a god in the swamp. Then I made the mistake of calling "Diamond in the Rough." They wanted to know the rules. I'd no sooner said, "then the low is a 6" when one big brute was threatening to take a chunk out of my ass and I hightailed it out of there.

Bigger, Better, Faster, Arter

It seems like it was just yesterday that we played two contiguous games at Mike B's for lack of another venue so I asked him if he was "ready for more." Replies Mike: "This is America!!! More is always good!!!"


Which reminds me of a documentary I watched last night called "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" that just about comes to the same conclusion. …
