Thom's Theme Is Abirthed

Come to Mike "I've Never Called 7/27 and I Never Will" Bucuvalas' exercise room tomorrow at  40 Southgate at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday and you may be privy to the inspiration of a Top 10 Hit-in-the-making, as the eight Jolly Rogers (and Pete "Not That Again Can't You Be Original It's Sooooooooooo Tedious" Arno) who attended last week's game were.

To wit:

The pop-cultural historians among you -- and, no doubt, Wolf the Sagest -- will remember that the Beatles' "This Boy" carried the alternative title, "Ringo's Theme." Well, we now have "Thom's Theme," too, following last week's game, during which George valiantly warned Thom against going both ways against him, thereby assuring that the pot was split.

It was a public display of karmic feedback that hasn't been seen since Plato's poker buddies raised sufficient ransom to rescue him from rabid pirates (back around the days when Xenakis was still playing a hand or two). In fact, that whole situation seems quite analagous to the one I find myself in every week, sailing such trecherous waters amongst sharks, sharpies and harpies (you know who you are).

Herewith, "Thom's Theme":

When you're down, and losing
And you need a winning hand
And nothing, whoa nothing, is going right.
Close you eyes and listen to George
And soon he will reveal
The call you need to snatch one half of the pot.

Everybody now:

You just call out George's name,
And you know whatever he plays
He'll come helping, oh yeah baby
To see you, not raise you, again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And he'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've got a friend.

Inexplicably, this is sung to the tune of James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend" and not Ringo's "This Boy." Sweetheart, get me rewrite!
