Saturday morning, the sun came out for the forst time in days. Deirdre took to the desk, laptop in tow. The flies, in turn, took to here. At first, she tried to Zen it out, but in the end she applied the Burt's Bee Bug Spray that Sue Feir had sagely given us before departure and the flies sought out another leader.

Carrick and Duncan headed back to the city about 2 p.m. Friday. When Carrick was about 5, she informed us that "I have my own style." She still does.

Deirdre is a big fan of board games, and Carrick and Duncan promised to play one before they left. Duncan chose Scrabble. Here, he must be putting to hex on me. He later blindsided me and overcame my substantial lead with brilliant maneuver — holding back a "Y" on a high-value, triple-score word he made toward the end of the game, then attaching the "Y" to the word the next round to win the game. He claimed he didn't realize what he was doing, but I don't buy it for a second. Secondary.
