Reachers Hit Our Stride

And our stride, it turns out, is 20 hits. (If only we had given Jason a few of them last week.)

We beat last year's league champs, the Greenwich Greys, 11-6. I believe they were 4-0 going into tonight's game, making it even sweeter.

Kevin Dawkins pitched a gem, assisted by some great plays in the field. Jim Pezzuto made a diving catch in right center, Pete Linkowski stopped a wicked shot at third that would have made Brooks proud, and Fred Wertz made the acrobatic play of the night with a dive to his left on a sinking liner with two outs and the bases loaded.

Mark Smith volunteered to be the 12th man and came off the bench to hit a key single in the fifth. Many Reachers had two hits; Jim had three, and Rick was on base three times with two hits and a walk. Pete stoked a clutch liner up the middle to knock in two key runs in the fourth, and Fred hit the left field fence for the second straight week. Someone picked up a stray bat after the game. It's Fred's. Don't let it get away.

The next game is Monday at 7:45. Please let me know ASAP if you're available or not. We had to do some juggling tonight.  So far I know that Kevin is not available; Larry, Jim and Pete are.

Unless Robert overrules me on this, BP will be Friday at Zinsser at 12:30 p.m. for all who can make it. Onward!
